Because you want a weekly newsletter calling out how timely topics are connected to mental health, and actions we can take to improve it.

That’s the short story. The long(er) story is that Mental: Fighting the fragmentation of mental health one policy at a time, is a newsletter launched almost exactly one year after Covid-19 came to the U.S. and shook us to our core – literally.

While the pandemic took its toll on us physically, the social isolation, stress and uncertainty that came with it took its toll on us mentally, too, bringing to the forefront a long overdue conversation about the state of mental health in America and what we need to do to fix it. It challenged me to start writing more about a topic I had dedicated my career to addressing: mental health.

At times, this newsletter will also be about how the news of the day ties directly to issues with our nation’s approach to mental health and well-being – even if it isn’t immediately obvious.

This weekly newsletter written by me, a musician, psychologist, and health policy wonk. I've had the good fortune of being deep in this field for over two decades, and I’ve learned a lot.

The best part? It’s a place where people can connect, swap stories, share ideas, get inspired and walk away with the tools needed to drive real, meaningful mental health changes in their community.

Thanks for coming. I hope you choose to be well and stay a while!
