The advent of the Internet and all the business ventures on it, and the endless incentives given for people in certain professions to promote themselves and their work, has somewhat compromised the ability for vacation to truly exist for some people. For how do you get away from something that virtually orders you to be present 24-7?
David, really good point! I think a lot of it comes down to our ability to set good boundaries - knowing when to be on and when to be off. It's super hard, sure, but putting the cell phone away for a minute never really hurt anyone. Our workplaces need to also better understand that our culture of work can't be 24/7... that's a longer conversation!
Enjoy that vacation
